Yvonne Melchers (1948, Haarlem/The Netherlands) had some art education at High School in Haarlem and later at High School in the United States. She was admitted to the Art Academy (Rietveld Academy/Amsterdam) in 1968, which she unfortunately had to leave after the first year because she had other commitments.
In 1992 she finally re-discovered her artistic aspirations and began painting again in her spare time. Apart from a few short courses in 1992/93 and the stimulating support in those years of painter and good friend Rob Raats (1948, Amsterdam), she is self-taught.
In 1997 she painted the first of a series of flowers in watercolour, that sold out almost immediately. The same happened to the oil paintings of (North Sea) beaches and Italian landscapes that followed. Next to this she obtained some commissions for portraits, and therefore never had enough work to organize a serious exhibition. Nowadays she paints full time and has stopped selling her work, in order to collect enough work to fill a (solo)exhibition, which will be announced on this website.
She finds her inspiration mostly in Italy and along the Dutch coasts. Consequently she works alternately in The Netherlands (near Amsterdam) and in Italy (Tuscany near Siena). She visits the ever inspiring Venice at least once a year.
